FINAL COUNTDOWN!

Wow it's been a while since I've written in this thing and for good reason:
I've stopped doing polyphasic.

The main reason why I stopped was because it was way too inconsistent and it bore fruit rarely, you only need to look at my posts to see that.

Also much like reading this bullshit, writing it was extremely boring, mainly because this wasn't supposed to give anybody an opinion. It was here for the facts. This wasn't a blog it just a log. Likewise writing this thing semi-weekly was like driving a screwdriver through my balls. NOW FOR MORE FACTS!

Now that I'm on monophasic again I feel a little more alert. I also noticed that like many others, I could only hold on for 6 months, then I just lost interest. Sleeping in public places isn't that hard, you simply need want a reliable spot. Also I've gained the ability to sleep almost instantly after that ordeal.

I do plan on going back on polyphasic again in a couple of years, but I did say the same thing about my vegetarianism. Also it isn't too beneficial to have so much time on your hands. It's almost unhealthy.

N/a

Recently I have been having way too much sleep. Like 8 hours a day, too much. I was too used to being somewhat adapted so I'm going to have to actually start trying again.

Healing a Heel

Overall thoughts:

Wow, I forgot how interesting dreams were. I think this is going to be more successful than not because for me I was having a huge problem with not having a nightly siesta. So I guess it does make more sense to take a siesta in the dark than in the light. Due to my recent injuries however, I'm going to need more rest than not.

Details and Naps:

FRI ???-???
I haven't slept for the entire day and I know this can't be good

THURS 11:30pm-7:30am FRI
I woke up at 2:30 but I went back to sleep anyway, but I did need the sleep due to my injuries.

THURS 8:30pm-9:30pm
I was never actually asleep during this time but, I was still resting from my injury gained only minutes ago. I jumped off the roof of a building and landed on my heels, needless to say it was extremely painful. I needed rest asap so I just rested

THURS 6:30am-7:00am
I'm not even sure if this nap was for 30 minutes. I couldn't get my regular naps in for the rest of the day, because I was on a field trip.

??????????MORESPECULATIONTROLLOLOLOLOLOL????????????

WED 12:00pm-12:30pm WED
I was knocked out, but the nap was shorter than needed.

WED 6:00am-7:30am WED
I guess I was more conditioned to the morning siesta than I thought I was.

TUES 11:10pm-2:10am WED
Yay I woke up, and this time with a strategy as well...

TUES 12:00-12:30 TUES
this has got to be one of my most sub-par naps ever... Well it wasn't that bad relatively speaking. I will have to get used to sleeping on the bus again.

MON 10:00pm-7:00am TUES
I way overslept this one, but the weirdest part was the realization that this much sleep is normal.

MON 11:50am-12:10pm MON
I woke up 5 times in that interval, but somehow I was able to dream, and afterward I felt great. ???

MON 7:00am-7:30am-8:00am-8:30am MON
This is what happens when you CAN.

SUN 11:30pm-2:30am-3:00am MON
I woke up then slept for 30 more minutes.
In these nap's I actually dreamt and remembered them

SAT 11:30pm-7:00am SUN
I definitely overslept this one, which is bad because I wanted to adapt over the weekend instead of the week.

FRI 11:00-9:00 SAT
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS!

FRI 3:30-5:00 FRI

Dawn of Night

Overall thoughts:
Hehe... Dawn of Night.
This week, much like the other weeks, has not been very predictable. I overslept so many naps, but the good part was that I could sleep my day away and still have time to both work and fuck around.
Since I didn't lose very much I'm not too upset at myself for oversleeping. I think down the road I might switch to back monophasic, simply because I will lose the need for a polyphasic cycle.
I won't be updating in I while (I doubt anyone cares, this is a blog minus the b), but the next update will probably be detailed and stuff.

Details and Naps:

WED 3:50am-7:30am WED
WED 8:30pm-9:30pm WED
THURS 1:50am-3:50am THURS
Here's the problem with humans, they're unreliable.
Here's the problem with machines, they're stupid.

Lead-206 is now radioactive.

Overall Thoughts:
I'm starting to be able to work with my mornings which is good, but my oasis of stability is drying out too. This is frustrating because now it's hard to be predictable again.

Overslept night naps are especially problematic. Whenever I oversleep those, I skip my free time. I work after 12:00, so when I wake up, I immediately have to start working. These problems make me want to change the schedule NOW.

Despite that, I still want to keep my old schedule for a week.  I still want to give this one a chance, and I don't want to go through adaption again. The new schedule won't be much different. Because I notice that I tend to oversleep my night naps, I'm just moving the siesta there instead, I'll then rearrange the others if needed.

Details and Naps:
TUES 9:10pm-12:40am WED
Augh, my fun time is over.

TUES 3:30pm-4:00pm TUES
was good.

TUES 4:15am-7:15am TUES
I think I'm now at the point where I actually can function in the morning. Too bad that's gonna change.

MON 9:10-10:30 MON
High energy

MON 3:45pm-5:30pm MON
I have a shitty alarm clock, and a good one. Naturally i brought the shitty one to school, but it didn't wake me up. It wasn't all that bad, but I left school really late, and that just didn't feel right.

MON 5:00am-7:15am MON
Due to me oversleeping the previous nap, I couldn't do this one the whole way through. But I did have a healthy amount of energy the next morning.

SUN 9:00pm-2:30am MON
Wow! that's 5 1/2 hours. This is the (v) bump.

SUN 4:00pm-4:50pm SUN
This nap was of terrible quality. I think this caused me to oversleep the next nap.

SUN 4:30am-10:30am SUN
Mmm... second hibernation. I hope this doesn't bring bumps down the road.

SAT 10:00pm-11:30pm SAT
1 is pretty close to 1.5

SAT 4:00pm-4:30pm SAT
was good

U-238 > U-234 > Th-230 > Ra-226 > Pb-210 > Pb-206

Overall thoughts:

Ahhhhhhhh...

HHHHGRH! Stability.
It's nice knowing what going to happen next, but it's not nice knowing that every morning I'm going to be a somnolent mess. Because of that, I'm going to keep this schedule for about one more week. I don't want to go through the adaption period again, but I need my morning to be workable too. But this time I'll make the changes gradual if I can.

Details and naps:

FRI 9:30pm-8:30am SAT
mmm... hibernation...

FRI 3:30pm-4:00pm FRI
This time a student running through the hallway almost tripped over me and my alarm clock. Maybe this corridor isn't as private as I think it is.

FRI 4:35am-7:15am FRI
Rather than being incredibly sleepy in the morning, I was just low on energy. That was a convenient improvement

THURS 9:00pm-10:00pm THURS

THURS 3:30pm-4:00pm THURS
I cleaned up the hallway to make it less hospitable to deadly spiders.

THURS 2:50pm-3:10pm THURS
WHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOPSSSSS! My Bad.

THURS 4:15am-7:15am THURS
I was so sleepy that I had to sleep for 10 minutes during class, but I felt much better afterwards

WED 9:30pm-10:30pm-11:30pm THURS
I woke up. Then 10 minutes later I fell asleep again. I felt like shit until 1:30am.

WED 4:00pm-4:30pm WED
I brought an alarm clock with me to school. Before I slept though, I had to find an extension cord in the hallway. I finally found one at the bottom of a tall stack of boxes. I also killed a black widow.

WED 4:30am-7:30am WED
sleepy morning... but I was a little bit more functional

TUES 9:00pm-10:00pm TUES

TUES 3:30pm-4:00pm TUES
1 nap left on my phone. Crap! What am I gonna do?

TUES 4:30am-7:15am TUES
Same thing as Monday, feels bad man

MON 8:30pm-12:40am TUES
I felt very refreshed after this nap, but despite oversleeping, I had no problem with falling asleep for the ^next nap.

MON 3:30pm-4:00pm MON
My "phone" was out of battery, and I lost the charger. It only had enough juice for about 2 more naps. I'll have to find it soon.

MON 3:30am-7:30am MON
I woke up with so much energy, but then it dropped to an all time low for like two hours. I was almost dysfunctional.

Monday, October 17, 2011

its sunday sunday gotta get up for sunday, everybody gettin ready for the weekdays weekdays ...

This time, I'm going to put the present at the top and the past at the bottom, that way the nap times become more linear. I'd suggest that you start at the bottom of this post.

My energy levels across the hours were remarkably consistent, and I was happy with that. But I did over sleep some naps especially the one on Friday.

SUN 9:00pm-10:00pm SUN
No problems here!

SUN 3:30pm-4:00pm SUN
My brother accidentally woke me up only 2 minutes early, but somewhere in my gut I felt entitled to go for about 30 more. This got me worrying about the level of foolishness in my altered state.

SUN 4:30am-7:30am-9:30amWow! I sort of did a fail here. I got up to take a piss and went back to sleep for "10 minutes", but that's not the fail. I usually don't press the snooze button, due to sleep-stupidity reasons. So when I came back from the bathroom, I was like "This time I WON'T be sleep-stupid, and I shall use the power of the snooze button!". The only problem was that I turned the alarm off already, so when I pressed the button nothing happened. That's morning logic for you.

SAT 9:00pm-10:40pm SAT
I'm starting to worry that I'm losing my stability here. I again asked my grandma to wake me up, but she didn't because I looked so sleepy. Then I said that I was okay with rude awakenings. (but never premature ones)

SAT 3:30pm-4:00pm SAT

I like this nap, it's always refreshing and I never oversleep it.

FRI 10:00pm-7:30am SAT
WHOOPS! I guess I... Uhh... yeahhhh... I guess the lesson here is to have a back-up plan.

Rhythm.

These times and dates were never actually logged at the time. But I remember them clearly because they were consistent enough to remember (YAY! I DID IT!). Unlike the others, I will also talk about the times in between naps too.

On another topic, I had a strange realisation today. Every single time my body finally got used to the schedule, I found tiny reasons to change it again. This resulted in a never ending adaptation period. So, now I'm just going to keep it the way it is, for a long time at least.

THURS 2:00am-7:30am THURS
I was really, really, really tired here. So tired that I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything productive if I stayed up, so I just clocked out early instead.

THURS 3:30pm-4:00pm THURS
At around 1:00pm, I had about an hour of extreme somnolence. This was pretty unpleasant.

THURS 8:45pm-9:45pm THURS
This time, I woke up by myself. Then my grandma helped me wake up even more.

FRI 4:15am-7:15am FRI
This pretty was weird. When I woke up, I had waves of alertness. At one point I was awake, alert, and fast. In only two minutes I became a limp, and mumbling mess. I kept switching between the two until around 9:00.

FRI 3:30pm-4:00pm FRI
Despite me being fairly awake before this nap, I had no trouble falling asleep. It felt great.

Ooo! details...

SUN8:40pm-10:20pmSUN
After this crappy nap I had to overdose on coffee so I could study for my (apparent) test tomorrow. Unexpectedly I had a fairly good time falling asleep, because I stopped drinking the coffee an hour before I slept.

MON4:30am-7:00am-8:30amMON
My dad woke me up 30 minutes before I was supposed to. Luckily I didn't have (1st half) school for today so I could sleep in to make up for it.

MON3:30pm-4:00pmMON
This nap was OK I guess, but I wasn't knocked out. I found some chairs to sleep on at school(2nd half) It put me in some kind of state where my body was unsure of what time it was. I felt temporally dislocated.

MON9:30pm-12:10amTUES
this made me feel very alert, too alert actually. Up to the point where I couldn't fall asleep for my real siesta for 40 mutes, but I got a lot of work done.

TUES4:30am-7:30amTUES
this one made me feel very alert as well

TUES3:30pm-4:00pmTUES
This one was pretty good. I found a storage room for clothes, and I made a bed out of it.

TUES9:30pm-11:30pmTUES
Yay! The time is slowly dwindling to one hour here.

WED4:30am-7:30am
I got up pretty quickly here

WED3:35pm-4:00pmWED
When I went back to my "bed" the clothes were gone. Then I found blankets! This nap was pretty good, but it also left me sleepy for 10 extra minutes.

WED8:30pm-9:30pmWED
I went to sleep, in the dark, in comfort, with only my alarm clock system to wake me. It worked! The time has dwindled to one hour.

Sunday is to be the day of rest

A timely update? FASCINATING!

SUN 5:00am-10:20am SUN
Uhh whoops...

SUN 4:00pm-4:40pm SUN
Due to me sleeping at school at this time this nap has become very established, so I didn't have to worry about oversleeping here.

SUN 8:40pm-10:20pm SUN
My GOD this was one of the worst naps ever, partly by coincidence, and partly by design. Because of my success on Saturday I tried the routine again, this made me take a really long time to fall asleep. My brother then woke me up, right after I told him not to. He knew about my polyphasic schedule for a pretty long time so I got so angry that I couldn't sleep any more. I eventually snapped, and got angry at everybody, but in the process my brother remained indifferent. So I will wake him the fuck up in the middle of his resting time, so maybe he can learn to have some respect (slim chances, but what else can I do?). If it fails I may have to sleep outside after this. :(

getting back on the horse.

During the week I had so much stuff going on that I could only write the times I went to sleep. But when I mapped my nap times, the reconstruction of memory was easier and more reliable. Unlike this update. (the aliens were reliable)
http://teenpolyphasic.blogspot.com/2011/09/last-couple-of-days-have-been.html

Here's the nap times and some thoughts I had about them.

SUN 10:00pm-1:30am MON
Well shit I didn't do this one very well but moving from 8 to 3&1/2 hours is OK...

MON 4:30am-7:30am MON
I think my dad woke me up for a second, but then I went back to sleep pretty quickly.

MON 4:00am-4:30am MON
This nap fucking sucked. I slept at some picnic tables in the middle of the day. I barely got any REM. Also, I had to walk around to find a good place to sleep.

MON 9:00pm-2:00am TUES
I was kind of pissed at myself for this, but I forgot how to re-adapt so It was kinda acceptable to me

TUES 4:30am-7:30am TUES
This is a bit missleading, because my dad woke me up at 7:00 and I stayed up till 5:00 for a test. So I really only had 2 hours of sleep.

TUES 3:30pm-4:00pm TUES
On my way to the picnic tables, I shortcutted through a very dark and isolated hallway. BINGO! I slept there instead. Es bien.

TUES 8:30pm-12:40am WED
Ok, I'm worse at this then I thought. Maybe monophasic's not that bad...

WED 3:30am-6:30am WED
I temporarily switched back to my previous schedule because I knew I wouldn't be able to fit in my 3:30 nap.

WED 12:00pm-12:30pm WED
I haven't slept on the bus for a really long time, but I did manage.

WED 5:30pm-6:00pm WED
I had robotics this day because it was the so-called deadline of the AIs that we were making. MIT then moved it to Friday.

WED 11:50pm-12:50am THURS
I wrote here that I slept properly, but I think I faded back to sleep somewhere around 1:30.

THURS 4:30am-7:30am THURS
Nothing wrong here.

THURS 3:30pm-3:50pm THURS
I had to take a bus to go to  robotics, so I slept there. It was pretty horrible. I lost my ability to sleep on a bus well because I had stopped doing it.

THURS 8:30pm-12:30am FRI
This one, I blame mostly on my mom. I asked her to wake me up at 9:30. Predictably she forgot. Maybe it WAS my fault for asking her, despite knowing that she was a very forgetful person, but then again I asked her 3 times, and was without an alarm. Your call.

FRI 3:50am-6:50am FRI
I had to wake up early so I could finish my math test.

FRI 3:30pm-4:00pm FRI
Sunshine and daisies. (really darkness and hallucinations)

FRI 10:30pm-9:30am SAT
I had to delay it by 2 hours because this was the second deadline. MIT(Much In need of Timeliness) THEN MOVED IT TO MONDAY. I was actually wanted to sleep for only an hour, but because of it was siesta day and my recent bad performance, I just slept till 9. I DO WHAT I CAN, BECAUSE I MUST, It was LONG. BD

SAT 4:00pm-5:10pm SAT
This is a bit misleading. I actually tried to go to sleep for a very long time, but I kept getting disturbed by various things, including my brother. So I only got like two minutes of REM, when I should've gotten 20.

SAT 9:00pm-10:00pm SAT
BOOOOYYYYYEEEEIIIIAAAAHHH! First true success. I wasn't going to fail this time. I asked two people to wake me up(, made sure they were actually paying attention), slept with nothing on to make me more unconfortable, turned the fan up all they way, and used a 3 tier alarm clock system.(but I used the alarm system all the time anyway)

Whoo-hoo! back to polyphase!

I honestly thought that I would want to be on monophasic for a much longer time. Something like 2 weeks to a month. But then I was like "Nah, screw that" and was back in a jiffy. (1 jiffy =5.492 days)

But this time I redesigned the schedule to better match my needs:
* I want to fit my schedule into reliable places where I don't have to skip them.
* I don't want to sleep in on my lunches so I'll have a break between breaks.
* I want to be able to watch a movie with my family, because they do that a lot.
* I want to be awake when I'm awake and sleepy when I'm sleepy.
* I want to retain a polyphasic schedule.

I couldn't do dymaxion, or uberman because they don't give you stages 1-4, of when attempting them in summer, I learned were necessary. Also both of these can't span the 8 hour period of sleepless school.

So I had to do a schedule with some kind of core which leaves me with biphasic, everyman, and triphasic.

Biphasic wasn't polyphasic enough so I didn't want that.

I've never really heard of triphasic, but assuming it's viable, it wouldn't work in my life, because I don't know how I would fit the 90 minutes in after school. (Also I asked my friend how he does triphasic. He said, "I sleep monophasic like triphasic". So no go over here.)

This left me with plain old everyman. But this time I changed it slightly so I wake up right before school starts and I sleep right when it ends. That way I don't have to sleep in at lunches. Also, due to it being so similar to my previous engrained schedule, I can now switch between them with relative ease.

Back to monophase :,(

The last couple of days have been incredibly unpredictable, to the point where I couldn't take it any more. Since Tuesday I have been on a steady and predictable monophasic cycle. *GASP!* It's not all that bad.

The reason why I switched was because I was losing the ablity to cram my naps in. And if you don't nap predictably on polyphasic, your just in sleep deprivation. I was also trying to shift the napping times over which I failed very badly at. I also couldn't keep up with the organisational issues. I wasn't even sure when or where I was going to get my next nap. With my napping unpredictable, my energy was too, that was torturous. Some hours, I was filled with energy, ready to do anything; On other hours I suddenly gained the incredible power to stare mindlessly at a wall for hours.

Although I just made everyman look bad, it's not. The only reason why I switched out was due to my inability to stick to the nap times, voluntarily or not.

Here's a log of my days

this is what it was supposed to be
3:00am-6:00am
12:00pm-12:30pm
5:30pm-6:00pm
10:30pm-11:00pm (If it's Friday sleep like a normal person)

Wednesday: the one day that's sane...
I had a "regular" cycle that day, the week prior had been hectic so this gave me a hope of re stabilisation.

Thursday: skipped 6:00 pm nap, slept in the middle of nowhere later...
I decided to go to my friends house, I attempted to nap there but it was too hilarious so I couldn't. I was very sleepy. Also some mysterious force (aliens?) beckoned me to go to a dark deserted place by a freeway around 8:00pm. It felt as if it was of vital importance that I lie there in the middle of the dirt. I had an epiphany of freedom (It felt like it at the time). So I did and lied there for an hour, then I left and the realisation seemed kinda stupid. (duped)

Friday: regular cycle but overslept on siesta at 10:30pm(F)(the longer nap)
This Friday I didn't actually want to sleep on the siesta, but I did anyway

Sturday: same thing as Friday
I felt that on this day my body was trying to force itself back onto monophasic.

Sunday: this day went normally but had a 11:00pm(S)-2:00am(S) siesta instead.
Due to me oversleeping on Saturday and Friday, I decided to move the siesta to 11:00, this was a smart move, but I couldn't handle it. especially with Monday's plan

Monday: Slept from 11:00pm-2:00am, skipped noon nap
I again slept from 11:00pm(S) to 2:00am(M) (more like 3:00) The extra hour was hard and I was very sleepy afterwards. After my morning nap(6:50am) I was filled with an excess of energy after that. I overslept the siesta again to 4:00am  and decided to switch to monophasic, because it was simply too unpredictable now.

Tuesday: monophase with 4:00pm nap about 6 hours
I didn't have as much energy as I thought I would

Wednesday: monophase about 8 hours
regular person

Thursday: monophase about 8 hours
regular person

Now that I'm back on monophase, I will reminisce about everyman. The things I miss most is the ability to wake up really really early without much effort. Also the amount of time that I had in a day.

But despite monophasic being so ever stable as it is, there is one thing that is certain:

Sick, tired, and sleepy

Second post baby...

(short version down below)Honestly I haven't been keeping up with the schedule lately and for good reasons. Because of that this is gonna sound like whining, but trust me, it's documentation.
Before Sunday I was starting to elongate my 11:00pm nap to be longer than usual, about three hours. This was starting to mess things up but not too bad. Then on Sunday I caught a disease. After that, shit hit the fans. Sickness doesn't abode well within sleep deprivation, especially because when you're sleeping, your immune system heals and boosts. So knowing that, on *Sunday (read note) I found myself very tired at about 11:00pm. Being sick, I knew a nap wouldn't charge me 100% so I took the siesta there instead, then I took a nap at 7:00am. It was also a half assed attempt at pulling my schedule back. On Tuesday I  couldn't get my lunch made, and this caused me to skip the noon nap. Then, somehow I found myself up on my feet (running shopping and karate) from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm excluding the nap I had to force in between. Because I was super exhausted I took a 1 hour "nap" then a 6 hour "nap" (these naps are starting to sound like sleeps). Now that it's Wednesday, and I'm not physically exhausted or sick I'm starting to re-stabilize the schedule. Below is a list of the hours I spent sleeping, I'm not even sure if they're right.

*It was actually a Monday but for sanity's sake I define days as periods between siestas

Dear princess Celestia:
ADVICE1: Don't half ass a schedule change.
ADVICE2: You need to be able to accommodate to changing body conditions. (exhaustion, disease)
ADVICE3: This thing takes an incredible amount of planning. I never knew my lunch could affect my naps.
My "normal" sleep schedule

Sleeping hours for these past couple of days...

Sun/Mon: 11:00pm(Sun)-2:00am(Mon)
Mon :<was sick> 7:00am-7:30am   12:00pm-12:20pm   5:30pm-6:15pm   <sickness peaking>10:30pm-1:30am   3:30am-6:30am

WHOOHOO! the present yeah!

It is the forth week of school and lately I've been easing back into monophase in my night nap(around 11:00pm). I, being the workaholic, didn't like this. So now I'm changing the schedule to have a core nap around 11:00pm rather than 3:00am. I just started it today and I'll keep you peoples updated.

Adopting Uberman, and Everyman-A quick summary.

I actually have been doing a polyphasic cycle for a while now(about 6 months), and I don't plan on stopping. This blog will be more about the evolution of a polyphasic sleep cycle than how to adopt it.

Me and my friend BLEAH, being both 16 years old decided to start doing polyphase. I took on EVERYman (4 naps 3 hour core) nearing the end of the school year on 2011. It went swimmingly, but unfortunately right when I was at the peak of the cycle I had to stop it for a week.

Then summer came along, so I had "time" to start UBERman (6 naps no core). What I was planning to do was to quickly switch between uberman, everyman, and monophasic that way my body would have the ability to quickly switch between various cycles quickly. Looking back it was more or less of a sucess

ADVICE: Something that is designed to give you more waking hours won't take time away from your day. I had a shit load of time on my hands and I didn't have much to spend it on, so I naturally did what bored people do, sleep.

I did: one month uberman attempt, one month monophasic, one+ month everyman and everafter...
I slowly learned that Uberman was not for me after many, many failed attempts, (about a month's worth). It being summer, I started monophase again, remember I had alot of time so I could afford it I was bliss for my sense of alertness, but my day's were just way too short, after the waiting room of everyman, monophasic became the blink of an eye. Then I started Everyman again so I could adapt to it before school started it went well, what I remember most was the difficulty of getting the noon nap(lunchtime). ADVICE: plan ahead, if you don't like planning then you won't get your naps consistently. If you don't nap consistently then that's just regular sleep deprivation.

When school started I more or less kept the schedule the same. Enough of me though, on to my friend BLEAH...

BLEAH was in a sport, and already deprived himself of sleep before polyphasic. Unlike me he started during the summer. He tried Uberman, and I guess he failed because now he does triphasic (3 naps, 90 minutes). I also know him to be an inconsistent napper, so consider that as well.
